I did business for a short time with a woman who was brilliant but she didn't have good business sense because of her greed. Although we had created a niche business that began great, she destroyed it by offering more and more products and services that we new little about. I left the business because I felt dishonest advertising quality service when we weren't capable of giving it. Not long after I had left, the business closed. I managed to remain friends with her disgruntled customers but her reputation in our area was destroyed.
People want to be associated with and buy from those they believe are the best. When you are perceived to be an expert, you will get people's trust based upon hearsay. Gaining this credibility in your niche or field without a doubt tilts the scales in your favor for success. This is one of the greatest ways to monetize your business while you continue to rise in your field. So don't spread into areas you know little about just to make more money.
